How does Recogen® help with osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis is considered a degenerative disease which inevitably occurs as one age. Despite years of research, there is no cure for osteoarthritis. At best, analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs can relieve pain and suppress related inflammatory reactions. Another method is to focus on stimulating the biosynthesis of cartilage cells or inhibiting cartilage degradation.

Recogen® products contain Bioactive Collagen Peptides that stimulate Type II Collagen's growth. Type II Collagen is essential for forming joint cartilage, which benefits people with osteoarthritis.

Two independent investigations, one conducted by Harvard Medical School and Tufts Medical Center and the other by Kiel University and scientists at Kiel-based Collagen Research Institute (CRI), have also confirmed the effectiveness of Recogen in stimulating cartilage regeneration in a presentation at the congress of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARS) in 2009.

Is Recogen® a steroid or pain killer?

Neither. Recogen® is a food supplement, not a drug.

Recogen® has no known side effects and is proven safe for long-term consumption.

In 1999, U.S Food & Drug Administration Department granted the GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status to Bioactive Collagen Peptides (BCP), proposing it to be safe for consumption. An example of GRAS substance includes common salt, sugar and vitamins.

Does vegan collagen exist?

No.
Collagen exists naturally only in animals. "Vegan collagen" is an extract of vegetables like legumes whose protein structure differs from that of humans.

Since collagen peptides of warm-blooded animals correspond to our body's collagen building blocks, our body recognises them as naturally produced proteins and can easily absorb and utilise them. For this reason, Recogen® insists on using collagen-containing tissue from the bovine hides of healthy animals to facilitate protein absorption and production.

Does Recogen® cause “heatiness”?

No documented studies showed that Recogen® cause “heatiness”, but this varies among individuals. If you feel the “heatiness” after consuming Recogen®, we recommend splitting one sachet into two doses and consuming one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

I took Recogen® for a few days yet I’m experiencing more pain in several areas of my body. Should I stop taking Recogen®?

No, Recogen® is a food supplement that does not cause pain. Several clinical studies have also proven the effectiveness of Recogen® against osteoarthritis.

The pain you experienced is likely caused by the “ups and downs” of pain in osteoarthritis or by other underlying reasons, such as the body adapting to a sudden surge of collagen production. If you experience continual pains which you suspect are not related to osteoarthritis, please talk to health professionals before taking Recogen®.
